Understanding the Ashtakvarga System

Ashtakvarga quantifies the strength of planets in each house by considering contributions of seven planets plus the Ascendant. Each planet distributes benefic points (Bindus) across 12 signs. The Sarvashtakvarga combines all individual scores to reveal which houses are strong and which need attention. Houses with total scores above 28 (out of 56 maximum) are considered strong, while those below 25 may indicate challenges in corresponding life areas.

How Ashtakvarga Works

Each of the seven planets and the Ascendant contribute either a Bindu or not to each of the 12 signs. Maximum per planet per sign is 8. The Sarvashtakvarga total across all houses is 337. This system is extensively used for transit prediction since a planet transiting a sign where it has high Bindus gives favorable results, while low Bindus suggest challenges. It is also valuable for Muhurta selection and timing events during planetary periods.

Ashtakvarga provides a mathematical framework for predictions, reducing subjectivity in analysis.
