Understanding Choghadiya Muhurta

Choghadiya (Chaughadia) is a popular auspicious time selection system used primarily in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Western India. The word comes from Cho (four) and Ghadi (24-minute time unit), meaning a period of approximately 96 minutes. The day (sunrise to sunset) and night (sunset to sunrise) are each divided into 8 Choghadiya periods, creating 16 periods in a 24-hour cycle. Each period is classified as auspicious, neutral, or inauspicious based on its planetary ruler.

Types of Choghadiya

Seven types exist: Amrit (most auspicious, ruled by Moon), Shubh (auspicious, Jupiter), Labh (gain, Mercury), Char (suitable for travel, Venus), Rog (inauspicious for health, Mars), Kaal (inauspicious, Saturn), and Udveg (inauspicious, Sun). For important activities, choose Amrit, Shubh, or Labh periods. Char is specifically suitable for starting journeys and travel. Avoid Rog, Kaal, and Udveg for initiating new activities or important decisions.

Using Choghadiya for Daily Planning

Choghadiya is especially popular among businesspeople and traders in Gujarat and Rajasthan who check auspicious timings before starting ventures, making deals, or initiating important transactions. Unlike complex Muhurta calculations that require birth chart analysis, Choghadiya is simple to use and applies universally regardless of individual horoscopes.
